Meet The Team
Matt Hawker
Hi I’m Matt the dentist and I qualified from Leeds dental school in 1997. I started working at Rawdon Lights dental care in 2000 so I have a bit of catching up to do before I overtake Gail! I completed an advanced restorative dentistry course with Paul Tipton in 2006 which gave me the bug for learning again. Following this I started a Master's degree in pain and anxiety management at Manchester dental school and qualified form there in 2008. My area of interest in dentistry is in helping people who find dental treatment difficult to get the treatment that they need, and hopefully for them to get the smiles that they aspire to. I’m a big believer that communication is the key- I always try to get to the bottom of problems that people are having, and to understand the cause of their dental anxiety. My aim is to get these people dentally healthy so that we’re just maintaining healthy mouths and avoiding nasty surprises.
Outside work I have a wife and three children so life is quite full. I love walking in the countryside and I play tuba in a brass band. This gives me a fairly unique understanding of the effect of teeth on playing musical instruments meaning that I can help other people to keep enjoying their pastime for as long as possible. My favourite pastime is playing in a band with the rest of my family- the Hawkestra!
